Not a bad session at the gym today.  I started out with a 2-mile run on the treadmill at 5.5 mph.  Next came the SLDL’s I didn’t do yesterday, with a nice increase in weight: 2 x 8 x 225, 8 x 235, 8 x 225.  I finished up by ellipting for 20 minutes, on the “Cascades” course.

  1. Uh, Peter, I’ve found you on Michael’s rec, so don’t shudder at seeing me here. I promise not to harass you with my Irish mountebank nonsensism. Really!

Q on the SLDLs: Romanian or classic? I’m pondering the reality that I am reaching a kind of limit on my aging lower back with standard DLs–I pulled 275×3, lift was relatively easy, but my back has been sore for days. I’m thinking of moving to rack pulls (from just below the knee) and using RDLs for hamstring development. I prefer RDLs to SLDLs because they seem to tweak my back less, what with the bar tracking so much more closely to the legs.

  2. I do the Romanian version. When I first started SLDL’s a few years ago I did the regular version, but indeed they were a bit hard on my back.

I’ve been really slipping recently when it comes to doing ordinary deadlifts. While I do the trap bar variety every week, those are more of a leg exercise. It’s funny, because I used to really like deadlifting, now I view it more as a chore. Don’t know why.
