Meetings, and meetings

Today began with the usual weekly agents’ meeting at nine.  I was figuring that Expressway traffic would be particularly bad due to the end of the holiday weekend, and left extra early.  To my surprise traffic was, if anything, lighter than usual, and I arrived over 15 minutes early.  Just about everyone was at today’s meeting, about 25 people in all, and the room was just barely large enough to fit everyone.  Right at the very limit of tolerability.   Now, the thing is that on Friday we’re having a 3-hour meeting that will include people from another local office, with anywhere from 40 to 45 people expected to attend.  A couple of months ago there were 35 people at a joint meeting and it was hideous.  I can’t even begin to imagine what Friday will be like.  It’s been over 250 years since the gruesome incident known as the Black Hole of Calcutta (look it up).  We may be due for a repeat.

There isn’t much to say about the rest of the day.  I did some work on the telephone, not having a great deal of success.  Tomorrow will be an “on the road” day and I’m hoping for better luck.  Not that I’m expecting much, this being the dead time of the year.  What with Christmas shopping people don’t always have money for insurance, and more to the point they want to think of happy things this time of the year.  Insurance is not a happy thing.  Still, I’ll press on, and if what I’ve heard from experienced agents is any guide, things should pick up in January.

Gym: a nice varied session today, with a 20-minute run on the treadmill at 4.6 mph, which is about 1.65 miles, followed by 20 minutes ellipting and 10 minutes on the stationary cycle.
