2010 ended on a mixed note.  There was a 3+ hour meeting in the morning, in which we learned about next week’s special incentives program.  It’s a classic carrot-and-stick situation.  The carrot part involves increased bonuses for meeting sales targets, the stick part is that for the first time there are some minimum sales quotas.  Failure to meet these quotas will result in unstated but presumably less-than-pleasant consequences. Fortunately for me, after leaving the meeting I was able to arrange for a sale next week that will put me reasonably close to the quota.  My reasonable assumption is that this sale is almost sure to go through.  If it weren’t for the sale I’d be on shaky ground to say the least.  Even so, I’ll have to work some long hours next week.
