Working on the holiday

Two more days of working on the special project in suburban Philadelphia.  Yes, the “two” is correct.  For the first time in my life I actually put in a full workday on the Fourth of July.  I really didn’t mind.  In part that’s because I’m being well-compensated, and in part because it’s not as if I had much else to do.  I don’t know anyone in this area, and socializing with other people working on the project with me isn’t really feasible as people are rotating in and out and I haven’t gotten to know anyone.  Except my supervisor, who is both my “regular” boss and the leader of this special project, but she’s working very long hours to get this project done.  One thing I did do, after leaving late Wednesday (the 4th) afternoon, is head off to the Parx gambling casino north of Philadelphia, my first visit to a casino in about three years.  Not being much into gambling, I confined myself to playing the penny slot machines, and stayed about an hour and a half.  No, I didn’t win, in fact I lost money … about five dollars.

Anyway, it won’t be long before I’ll be heading home.  Business travel really isn’t my cup of tea, especially in a place where I don’t know anyone.
